Unit description
With the advance of the Internet and its applications, networked systems have been widely deployed to enable efficient communications across networks and improve productivity of businesses. This unit focuses on design principles of computer networks for different scales including local area network (LAN), metropolitan area network (MAN), and wide area network (WAN). In this unit, students will learn about a broad set of technologies, protocols, and tools that are employed to design a modern network infrastructure that is robust, flexible and cost-effective. Students will analyse software/hardware requirements for network design of different sizes, and propose solutions to satisfy the ever increasing networking demand from enterprises. Students will also learn logical network design, IP planning, system implementation and system extension in this unit.
