Typical study commitment: Students will on average spend 10 hours per week over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.
Scheduled learning activities: 4 timetabled hours per week, 6 personal study hours per week

Unit description 

The main objective of this unit is to develop the necessary design and implementation skills for providing enterprise resource planning solutions. By completing this unit, the students will learn how integrating core business processes in one single application, will help companies maximize the efficiency of business processes across the entire organization including increases in on-time delivery, productivity, forecasting demand and production capacity. This unit aims to provide the fundamental understanding of various Enterprise Systems, functions and modules and how they can be integrated into a business context. The unit also helps students understand the usage of ERP for monitoring and controlling business processes while providing practically oriented solutions to the design and implementation of ERP. The students will acquire those skills to design a framework by which a business can decide to provide more value at a lower cost which increases its competitive advantage.


Unit learning outcomes (ULO)   

 
On the successful completion of this units student will be able to:
ULO1 Describe basic business functional areas and explains how they are related.
ULO2 Deduce and analyze how integrated information systems will support business functions and business processes across functional area boundaries.
ULO3 Explain how ERP systems can help solve accounting and financial reporting problems that occur in an unintegrated system.  
ULO4 Describe how an integrated information system can support effective human resources processes.
ULO5 Develop an event process chain (EPC) diagram of the business Process and evaluate the value added by each step in a business process.
ULO6 Describe and outline the importance of ERP and Business Intelligence Technologies such as cloud and mobile computing, service-oriented architecture (SOA), Web services, and the unique components of NetWeaver.
ULO7 Interpret and critique future trends of ERP systems and associated technologies to address the increasingly complex and evolving environments.
