Unit description
Students are introduced to business strategies developed with the aid of decision support systems processes, methodologies and applications. Decision support systems address the common cognitive biases that affect decision making and draw on the various behavioural sciences associated with making decisions. The theories and their applications presented in this unit can assist students both as a manager and as an individual in making informed and rational decisions relating to all facets of an organisation.

On the successful completion of this units student will be able to: |

ULO1 | Define and explain the concepts, methodologies and technologies behind the decision support systems. |
ULO2 | Utilise appropriate technologies to support decision making for collaborative groups, executives and managers in contemporary business organisations. |
ULO3 | Analyse the objectives and benefits of business analytics and data mining, distinguishing between descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics. |
ULO4 | Develop basic concepts of optimisation, simulation and heuristic models in a spreadsheet. |
