Unit description
This unit is designed to be an introductory unit in information technology. It focuses on key concepts of modern computer systems and their role in supporting business decision making. Students will understand the fundamentals of hardware, software, database, operating systems, networking, and programming and how these technologies influence and enhance an organisation’s environment and business model. They will gain specific hands-on experience by completing assignments and other in-class activities. This unit will also introduce some new emerging technologies such as cloud computing and the Internet of Things. It will also introduce security aspects of Information Systems and will discuss ethical, legal, and social issues related to Information Systems.
